Lake Vermilion is world famous for it's walleye fishery. And in the last several years, because of
an aggressive DNR stocking program, muskies in the 50+ inch size are being caught (and released).
The lake has over 1200 miles of shoreline, 365 islands, with bays and open water structure
numerous enough to provide fish habitat for healthy populations of large and small mouth bass,
crappie, perch and panfish.
- from the first days of ice-out with slab crappies schooling in
the shallows, to the post spawn feeding of walleyes at the opener;
- from the football sized small mouth bass spawning frenzy in last June, to the muskie
strike/explosions in August;
- from the big northern feeding sprees over the late dying weed beds in September, to the walleye
(and everything else) final Fall-feeding bonanza until ice-out
